Why did we start Gegenwart24?
Gegenwart24 Media Ltd. founded Gegenwart24 in 2024 because we saw a clear gap in Swedish news coverage: there was no dedicated digital publication offering clear, practical reporting on Sweden for readers who want genuine context without noise, spin, or oversimplification. Our tagline – “Nachrichten, Analysen und Hintergründe für Deutschland” – reflects our ambition to serve German-speaking audiences, but our focus and editorial independence remain firmly Swedish.
Swedish politics, economy and society are complex. Reporting that rushes to conclusions or favours sensationalism does a disservice to readers trying to understand, for example, how a new law in the Riksdag will affect their everyday life, or why a shift in central bank policy matters for household budgets. Under editor-in-chief Christian Müller, we set out to build a publication that treats readers as intelligent, busy people who deserve thorough, accurate explanations rather than click-driven headlines.
What problem does this solve for you?
When you read an article on Gegenwart24, you can trust that it has been written by a named journalist, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. You will always see where information comes from, and we correct mistakes openly and quickly. That commitment – spelled out in our Sources & Standards and corrections policy – is the foundation of everything we do.
How this works in practice
To make our editorial process concrete, consider a recent article on Sweden’s housing market. Our Wirtschaftreporter Anna Roth drafted the story after interviewing economists and reviewing official statistics. The piece was then reviewed by Redaktionschef Christina Zimmermann, who checked clarity, tone and structure. Before publication, fact-checker Helena Graf verified the data points and sourced statements. The final version was approved by Christian Müller.
AI-assisted tools were used to help with transcription of interviews and to suggest alternative headlines, but no automated system made any editorial decision. Every quote was confirmed with the source; every number traced back to its original report. If a mistake had been found – and mistakes do happen – we would publish a correction on the same article page and note it in our corrections log, as outlined in our fact-checking policy.
That same process applies to every piece you see on the site. Our team structure – with dedicated editors for politics (Oliver Fuchs), economy (Anna Roth), and culture (Martin Schumacher) – ensures that coverage stays deep and informed. You can meet the whole team on our team page.
Who is behind Gegenwart24?
Gegenwart24 is owned and operated by Gegenwart24 Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry). The registered office is Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000. Editorial decisions are made independently by the newsroom, led by Christian Müller, and commercial relationships never influence what we publish.
Our funding comes from display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing – all clearly labelled wherever they appear. You can read the full breakdown in our ownership and funding statement and our advertising and affiliate disclosure. We believe transparency about money is essential to trust, and we apply the same rigour to our own operations that we do to our reporting.
