Beschwerdeverfahren

If something in our reporting does not meet your expectations or you believe we have made a mistake, this page explains exactly how to let us know and what you can expect from us in return. We take every complaint seriously and have a clear, straightforward process to ensure your concern is heard, investigated and resolved as quickly as possible.

How do I submit a complaint?

Send your complaint by email to complaints@gegenwart24.de. Please include the full URL or headline of the article, a brief description of the issue and, where possible, the specific fact or claim you believe is inaccurate or problematic. If your complaint concerns a correction, a factual error or a source question, our fact-checking team led by Helena Graf (Ansvarig för faktagranskning) will review it as a priority. You can also use the same address for complaints about editorial tone, balance, missing context or any other aspect of our journalism.

We aim to acknowledge receipt within one working day. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can indicate that in your email – we will respect your choice and still investigate the matter fully.

What happens after I submit?

Once your complaint reaches us, it is logged and assigned to the most appropriate member of our editorial team. For issues involving factual accuracy, Helena Graf or a member of her fact-checking team will examine the claim against our sources and editorial standards. For complaints about broader editorial judgement or coverage, the relevant section editor – for example, Oliver Fuchs (Politikredaktör) for political stories or Anna Roth (Wirtschaftreporter) for economic coverage – will review the material. Every complaint is documented and, if upheld, leads to a correction, clarification or editor’s note, which we publish in line with our corrections policy.

We will respond to you with our findings and any action taken, usually within five working days. If the investigation requires more time – for example, because it involves verifying a complex source – we will let you know and give a revised deadline.

How this works in practice

Imagine you read an article on Gegenwart24 that states a Swedish government minister voted against a specific bill. You know from official records that the minister actually abstained. You email complaints@gegenwart24.de with the article URL and your evidence (a link to the Riksdag voting record). Our fact-checking team reviews the claim, confirms the error, and we update the article with a correction and a note at the bottom explaining the change. You receive an email from us acknowledging the mistake and thanking you for bringing it to our attention. That is the kind of concrete, transparent process we follow for every complaint we receive.

What if I’m not satisfied with the outcome?

If you believe your complaint was not addressed properly or you disagree with our conclusion, you can escalate the matter directly to our Chefredaktör, Christian Müller. Send an email to anders.lindqvist@gegenwart24.de with the subject line “Escalation: [your original complaint reference]”. Christian will personally review your concern, the original investigation and the decision taken. He will respond within three working days and, if necessary, order a further review or a correction. As a final step, if you remain unsatisfied, you may refer the matter to the Swedish Press Council (Pressens Opinionsnämnd) – though we hope our internal process will resolve the issue.

Where can I find related policies?
