How can I request a takedown?
If you believe that material on Gegenwart24 infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to our designated email address: copyright@gegenwart24.de. Include a clear description of the protected work, the specific URL(s) where the material appears on our site, and your full contact details. We will review your request and respond promptly.
Your notice should contain the following information to help us process it efficiently:
- Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
- A description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed.
- The exact URL or other location on our site where the allegedly infringing material resides.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate.
We will acknowledge receipt within three business days. If the claim appears valid, we will remove or disable access to the material and notify the person who posted it, where applicable. If the claim is disputed, we may provide the poster with an opportunity to submit a counter-notification. We handle all such requests in accordance with the EU Digital Services Act and relevant national legislation.
What about image rights?
We respect image rights and only use photographs, graphics, illustrations and other visual content that we have licensed, created ourselves, or that falls within fair use, quotation rights or other legal exceptions. If you believe an image on Gegenwart24 infringes your right, please include the specific image URL and a description of your ownership in your takedown request.
Our editorial team and fact-checking staff, led by Helena Graf (Ansvarig för faktagranskning), verify the provenance of visual content before publication. If an image was sourced under a Creative Commons licence, we attribute the creator and link to the licence terms. Nevertheless, errors can occur. If you find an image used without proper permission, we want to correct it promptly. Please send your claim to copyright@gegenwart24.de and we will investigate immediately.
How this works in practice
Consider a fictional example: a freelance photographer discovers that one of their images of the Stockholm archipelago appears in an article about coastal tourism published on Gegenwart24 without licence or attribution. The photographer sends a takedown notice to copyright@gegenwart24.de with the article URL, their contact details and proof of copyright. Our editorial team reviews the claim, confirms the image was used in error, removes it within 48 hours and sends a written apology to the photographer. We also add a note to the article explaining the correction. If the image had been properly licensed, we would instead respond with evidence of that licence and, if necessary, update the attribution.
