Datenschutzerklärung

This privacy policy explains how Gegenwart24 handles your personal data when you visit gegenwart24.de or interact with us. It is designed to help you understand your rights and our responsibilities under UK data protection law. Please read it alongside our Cookie Policy for details on tracking technologies we use.

What personal data do we collect and why?

We collect only the personal data that you provide directly or that is necessary for the website to function securely and efficiently. This includes your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us via our Contact page, or submit a tip through Tip Us.

When you browse the site, our servers automatically log your IP address, browser type, operating system, and the pages you visit. We use this information for security, analytics, and to improve the user experience. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Where we use cookies or similar technologies, you can manage your preferences via our Cookie Policy.

How do we use your data?

We use your data to deliver our journalism, send newsletters you have signed up for, respond to your enquiries, and maintain the security and performance of the website. Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are consent (for newsletter subscriptions) and legitimate interest (for analytics and security).

For newsletter subscriptions, we use a third‑party email service provider that stores your data on servers inside the European Economic Area. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymised where possible. We never use your data for automated decision‑making or profiling. Sponsored content and affiliate links are clearly labelled and never influence how we handle your personal information – see our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

How this works in practice

Suppose you sign up for our weekly newsletter on the Newsletter page. We ask for your email address and name (optional). That data is stored securely by our email provider and used only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. After you unsubscribe, we automatically delete your subscription data within 30 days. If you contact our editorial team via the general info address, we keep your message only as long as needed to resolve your query, usually no more than six months.

Who is responsible for your data?

Gegenwart24 Media Ltd, a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry), is the data controller for gegenwart24.de. Our registered office is Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000, and our main phone is +356 2138 9009. For UK GDPR purposes, our representative can be reached through our editorial office in Sweden at +46 8 525 030 61.

Chefredaktör Christian Müller is responsible for editorial standards and publication decisions. Our data protection enquiries should be directed to info@gegenwart24.de. For full ownership and funding details, see our Ownership & Funding page.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, as well as the right to object to processing. You can exercise any of these rights by contacting us at info@gegenwart24.de.

We will respond to your request within one month. If we cannot fulfil your request – for example, because it conflicts with our legal obligations as a publisher – we will explain why. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the United Kingdom if you believe we have not handled your data properly.

How long do we keep your data?

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected. Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days. Server logs are anonymised after 26 months. Enquiry emails are deleted once the issue is closed, unless they relate to a contractual or legal matter. We review our retention periods annually.

In short

We take your privacy seriously and handle your data responsibly. We only collect what we need, we never sell your data, and you have full control over it. If you have any questions, please contact our data protection team at info@gegenwart24.de.
